Mitch Boughman

Hi, my name is Mitchell Boughman.  I am originally from Mount Holly, NC.  My wife, Molly, and children, Lilly and Levi, and I moved to Cullowhee in June, 2022.  It’s pretty crazy too, because I was a student here at WCU and involved with the Wesley Foundation and CUMC from 2007-2011.  At that time, I was majoring in biology and planning on being a medical professional.  As it turned out, God had something else in mind for me.  After a long process of becoming ordained, acquiring a seminary degree from Duke Divinity School and after 7 years of service at my first appointment, I wound up being invited back to serve here at CUMC.  It is a great honor and privilege to be here and I give God thanks for the opportunity.

In ministry, some of my focuses are on bridge building, community work, and inviting people into a deeper journey of faith (discipleship).  One way I look at it is that I’m called to help create opportunities for people to put their faith into practice.  Those opportunities may come in the form of community service, and sometimes they may come in the form of acts of worship or even rhetorical questions on Sunday mornings.  They may even come on other days of the week and involve small group participation.  I also like to plan service trips.  I have planned service/mission trips to Costa Rica and Mexico and I have participated in other international trips as well, including to places like Paraguay and Guatemala.

I also like to plan family vacations.  My wife actually pokes fun at me sometimes for compiling the “Boughman family vacation binder,” complete with reservation information and itinerary.  I admit, it’s probably overkill.  I’m a woodworker and a beekeeper and I like to hit golf balls (notice I didn’t call myself a golfer) and I like to play most racquet sports, especially racquetball.  I love BBQing/smoking and I admit that I have also become a bit of a coffee snob in recent years.

If you’d like to know more about me or the church feel free to shoot me a text or give me a call.  I’d love to meet you over lunch or something. 704-608-6054
