Who’s Counting?

Children have an incredible ability to remember perceived injustices, like whose turn it was to ride in the front seat or who got to pick dinner last. While adults might laugh at this, we often do the very same thing. We may not vocalize it, but we keep mental ledgers—remembering who apologized last, who showed up when we needed them, or who let us down.

In the scripture passage today, Jesus isn’t just giving us another impossible standard to live up to. Instead, he is showing us what is actually possible. While debts and hurts are very real, the grace of Jesus Christ can set us free from spending the rest of our lives trying to collect debts that can never truly be repaid.
