Children’s Ministries

Children’s Ministry facilitates the many activities at CUMC beyond Sunday school for children from infants through fifth grade. Opportunities for service in children’s ministry include nursery assistance, helping with special events, leading children’s church on Sunday and participating in Vacation Bible School. Children’s Choir is a  program at Cullowhee United Methodist Church for elementary children in K-5. It gives children an opportunity to learn to praise God by shining like stars through music and drama. The purpose of this program is to give every interested child the experience of learning and performing and to develop a positive self esteem and pride in a job well done.

From time to time we will share our music and skits on Sunday mornings during the 11:00 Worship service. We will begin our year with some songs we learned in Bible school and some new ones too.  Bring your child to the sanctuary at Cullowhee Methodist Church on Wednesday evenings at 5:45- 6:30.

Children’s Chime Choir is an opportunity for children ages 5th grade and and older to be involved in a music ministry.  The Chime Choir will resume practices in September.  Carmen Huffman will be the director this year.

Vacation Bible School is held every year for one week during the summer.

Cradle Ministry is a ministry that shares with the family the congregation’s joy of the birth of a new baby and, again, when the infant is baptized into the church community.  After the birth of the infant, a rose is put on the altar the following Sunday in honor of the newborn.  The Care Team Leader will contact the family about bringing meals during the first week that the infant is home.

CUMC Nursery is staffed by four adult paid attendants and three volunteers on Sunday mornings from 8:45 – 12:15 to provide a stimulating, stable environment for our infant to toddler age groups. There are also volunteers and paid attendants who care for the pre-school children during the worship service. Contact: Bonnie Stephens, 293-1154.

Children’s Message occurs during the worship service with adults sharing their faith with children in a five-minute lesson. Contact the church office, 293-9215.

Children’s Church is a special worship opportunity for children in grades K-3 held during the last half of the regular worship service. During this time, children may enjoy special stories, crafts, music, prayer time, unique worship experiences, object lessons and, from time to time, dance. Contact: Sandy Railsback.
