Our class is a 30-hour training program that prepared you to advocate for the children in the court system.  You will work with a wonderful supervisor, an attorney advocate, and other volunteers as you team to help meet the needs of the children.

Requirements are simple-a heart to help children.  No special education is required other than this class.  Training is FREE.

Cullowhee United Methodist Women will hold their annual Pledge Luncheon on Sunday, March 14, after the 11:00 worship.  This is an opportunity for UMW members to make their pledges for 2010, and for others to make a donation to mission giving.  On the menu is soup and salad.  Please join us.

Mini School of Christian Mission March 27

The annual Waynesville District UMW Mini School of Christian Mission will be held at Love’s Chapel UMC on Saturday, March 27, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  This year’s studies are “Food and Faith” or “The Beauty and Courage of Sudan” (choose one).  A light breakfast will be provided during registration, which is from 9:00 until 9:30.  Bring a bag lunch; Love’s Chapel UMW will provide drinks and dessert.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN’S BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP has selected its next book and plan to review the book in April. The group selected No Turning Back: My Summer with Daddy King, by Gurdon Brewster, Orbis Books, 2007.  In the summer of 1961 seminary student Gurdon Brewster ventured south to work at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga., where Martin Luther King Sr. and Jr. were pastors.  In this moving memoir, he recalls his first encounters with segregation and spontaneous church services of the black Bapist tradtion.  Mr. Brewster revisits a historic era carved in faith and courage by ordinary Americans of all colors. 

 We hope to have a UMW sponsored reading program discussion group four times a year.  We will be giving lots of advance notice so you’ll have time to read the book. Everyone is welcome! If you have any questions, please call Ruth Anderson at 293-2331.
