Marietta Cloud, Organist
I came to Cullowhee in 1969 with my husband, Lew and our three sons. Lew was employed as a professor at Western Carolina University.
I matriculated at Western Carolina University as a freshman majoring in library science and received my Bachelor or Science degree in 1973. I then entered the master’s program in educational media and graduated with a Master of Science in Education degree in 1974. Following graduation, I began a twenty year career as a librarian at Camp Lab School, Cullowhee.
The Cloud Family joined the Cullowhee United Methodist Church in 1969, then, due to a vacancy, I agreed to become the “interim” organist in 1976 and served in this capacity since, with the exception of 1978 when I suffered a brain hemorrhage and was compelled to take a one year leave.
I love music, particularly church music, and enjoy playing the piano and organ. I believe this is where God has placed me to serve.
Lew and I have been happily married for 52 years and are the honored grandparents of six wonderful grandchildren. Our son Steve lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and is the department head of the Speech and Hearing Department at the University of Southern Mississippi. He and his wife have two children, Cameron and Brandon. Jeff and his wife live in Mills River, NC with their two children, Corey and Christa. Jeff is a North Carolina State Trooper. Craig and his wife live in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa. They too have two children, Wallace Anne and John Beck. Craig is the Management Officer for the U. S. Embassy there.
We thank God for guiding our family to these mountains of Western North Carolina and to Cullowhee United Methodist Church were we feel so much love and support.
