Middle School Youth group is for 6th-8th grades. High School Youth group is for youth in 9th-12th grades. Any youth in the community are welcome to attend and do not need to be a member of Cullowhee UMC. We encourage the youth to invite friends. Julia Trantham and Hannah Van Hooser lead the middle school, and Meredith Willis, Paul Heckert and David Reeves lead the high school.
Both groups meet regularly on Sundays from 4-6 p.m. for activities and service work. Occasionally, they have special activities, and they may meet earlier on Sunday. In the summer, a mission trip is usually planned. This past summer the high school group went to Boston and the middle school students went to Milwaukee working at homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
Another yearly activity is backpacking on the Appalachian Trail through Wilderness Trail camp near Damascus, Virginia. Many of the youth come back saying the experience was life changing.
Sunday, May 21st from 5:00pm-7:00pm: The youth will host a Spring Fling dinner fundraiser to raise money for our summer mission trips. A delicious menu with a vegetarian option will be advertised soon! We will also have a photo booth for diners to participate in! We will need youth and parents to prepare food, set up, act as waiters/waitresses, and clean up. Please let Julia know if you can help!
Sunday, May 28th, time TBD: This will be the first day for our our Duke Intern, Adam Bock, so we are going to take him on a fund outdoor adventure to welcome him. We will either go rafting on the Tuck or take a hike to Cullowhee Falls. Details coming soon!
